People's Journal- Fiery start by Lancers

 CEBU powerhouse    University of the Visayas scored an emphatic 157-55  victory over  host Philippine  College  Foundation  (Valencia,  Bukidnon) at  the  start of the  65th  BAP-National  Student Basketball  Championship  in Don  Carlos, Bukidnon.

The Felix Belano-coached Green Lancers, who lost to the South Western  University in  the 2012  CESAFI  finals, were  bolstered  by  Cameroon  recruits Nlzelsses  and   Babia,who  tallied 35 and  17 points,  respectively.

Codilla also chipped in 17 markers.

Defending  NSBC   titlist  Jose  Maria  College    of  Davao  made short work  of  Pilgrim  College  of   Cagayan  de   Oro  City, 95-72, in the  six-team  tournament organized  by the   Basketball Association of  the   Philippines   (BAP), headed by president   Senator  Antonio  Trillanes  and  supported  by  Don  Carlos,  Bukidnon  Mayor Felix  Manzano  and Vice  Mayor  Jude Palmada.

BAP treasurer Tony Fabico and BAP provincial director Ruel Daba represented  Sen. Trillanes during the  colorful  opening ceremony.

University  of Luzon from Pangasinan, on the other  hand,  split its two assignments.

The  Dagupan- based  team, which  is also being supported  by Dagupan City  Vice  Mayor  Belen  Fernandez a nd  BAP  Region 1 Board Chair  Jack Vidal,   demolished   Philippine College  of  Foundation  of  Valencia,  Bukidnon,101-64.

University of  Luzon   received 15  points  from   Dennis  Cuaresma  and  13  each  by  Jeffrey Vitales and Kevin Sespene.

The champion of the 5th NSBC will qualify to the 10th Asian University Basketball Championship in September 2013 in Metro Manila.

The AUBC  will be  hosted by the Federation of School Sports Association of the  Philippines  (FESSAP), Asian University Basketball Federation (AUBF) and the BAP, with  support from Agri Nurture Inc (ANI), Cobra Energy Drink, San Miguel Corporation, Bestank and Healthy Options.
