People's Journal -Philippines ready for Kazan Universiade READY and confident.

This is how the  83-man Philippine  delegation to  the 2013  Summer  Universiade  scheduled July -17 in Kazan, Russia described itself four  months before the biggest sports competition for university students.  

The Philippines,  through the Federation  of  School Sports Association of the  Philippines (FESSAP),  announces the  formation of  a lean but mean  delegation  composed of   athletes, coaches and   officials  for the prestigious competition  held   every two years.

Dubbed as the ‘Olympics’ of university students, the   Summer Universiade features the most prominent university athletes from the  world.

In the  2011  Summer Universiade  held   in  Shenzhen, People’s Republic of  China, the Philippines was  among a record-setting 152  countries  which  competed  in  the two-week long event.

The Philippines was also among the 65 countries that brought home  a  medal  --  a silver courtesy of   Far Eastern   University’s Samuel Thomas Harper Morrison --  in  taekwondo.

In Kazan,  A griNurture Inc. (ANI) chairman  Antonio Tiu will be the  Philippine  head  of  delegation.

Retired  Col.  Ariel Querubin, vice-president of  Philippine Federation of Body Builders Inc. (PFBBI)  , will be the country’s flag-bearer during   the opening ceremonies on July  6.

In an official communication obtained from the  Kazan Universiade organizing committee,   2013  Universiade has attracted more  than 180  countries, led  by the United States, People’s Republic of China, Japan, South Korea and host  Russia.

In  centerpiece event of    basketball, the  Philippines will be represented by the University of Visayas (UV), which recently topped the   FESSAP-sanctioned 65th National Students Basketball Championship (NSBC) in Bukidnon  that was organized by Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP) president Senator Antonio  Trillanes IV in cooperation with  BAP  Region 10 officials and supported by San Miguel  Corp.,ANI,  Bestank, H2O Technologies, Healthy Options and Cobra Energy Drink.
Felix Tiukinhoy, FESSAP assistant secretary-general for Visayas,   has already informed  UV chairman Cong.  Eddie Gullas for this  once- in-a  lifetime opportunity to represent the  country.


May isa namang bersyon na bagama’t pareho ang ranking ng Top 4, sinasabing ang pagdausdos ni Escudero sa No. 3 spot para maungusan ni Cayetano ay epekto diumano ng ‘iringan’ nito sa mga magulang ng kasintahang aktres na si Heart Evangelista.


Sa panghuling bersyon na siya umanong kumalat sa text sa mobile phone, iniulat dito na pangatlo umano si Ejercito at pang-apat lamang si Escudero sa kabila ng pagkakaroon nila ng pantay na 48% boto mula sa mga respondents.


Maliban naman sa pagkakaiba-iba ng ranking sa ‘Top 4’, magkakapareho na ang mga ulat sa panlima hanggang sa dulo ng top 12. Ito ay sina Nancy Binay, Cynthia Villar at Koko Pimentel sa 5th-7th posts taglay ang 47%, 8th si Antonio Trillanes IV (44%), pang-siyam si Gregorio Honasan (43%), 10th si Bam Aquino (42%), pang-11 si Grace Poe Llamanzares (40%) at pang-12 si Sonny Angara (39%).
