Trillanes: Long-overdue increase in military, police subsistence allowance passed into law

The joint resolution increasing the subsistence allowance of the country’s military, police, and other uniformed personnel has been signed into law by President Benigno S. Aquino III.

Senator Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes IV, principal author and sponsor of the measure in the Senate, commends President Aquino for promoting the welfare and recognizing the sacrifices of the uniformed personnel by signing the measure into law.

“It has been a long time since the subsistence allowance of our soldiers and police was increased. Despite their significant role in the country, they remain to be among the measly paid public servants. We are thankful that finally our government has addressed this need.”

“We hope that through this measure, we would uplift their morale and inspire them more to serve faithfully this country, especially in these trying times,” said Trillanes, chairman of Senate Committee on National Defense and Security.

Under the new law, subsistence allowance will be increased to P150 from the present P90, effective 1 January 2015. Particularly covered by this law are: the officers, enlisted personnel, candidate soldiers, probationary second lieutenants, cadets and civilian active auxiliaries of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP); the commissioned and non-commissioned personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP); the cadets of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA); the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and its candidate Coast Guard men, and the uniformed personnel of the National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA).

Meanwhile, Magdalo representatives Gary Alejano and Francisco Ashley Acedillo, who authored the said resolution together with Trillanes, also take pride in this achievement for the country’s military and police.###
