Trillanes pushes for additional Insurance Coverage and Benefits for AFP, PNP

In recognition of the immeasurable effort of the military, police, and other uniformed personnel who risk their lives, especially amid the anti-crime and anti-drug campaign of the current administration, Senator Antonio F. Trillanes IV has refiled Senate Bill No. 284 or the bill providing for additional insurance coverage and benefits to all members of the uniformed services.

Trillanes stated: “Currently, our military and police personnel are covered by the Special Group Term Insurance, which provides benefits to our uniformed personnel and their families in case of any unfortunate event they might encounter. These benefits include an insurance coverage of only P16,000 for natural deaths and P32,000 for those Killed-in-Action plus P1,000 burial benefit.

“These amounts, which are paltry by any standards, were last amended last March 2000, or more than a decade and a half ago, and are no longer sufficient to cover their financial and medical needs considering the risks they face in the course of their work. Consistent with the aim of promoting their welfare, I am seeking for additional insurance coverage and benefits for our men uniform.”

Under SBN 284, our uniformed personnel, including those in the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, National Bureau of Investigation, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, and Philippine Coast Guard, who are killed, wounded or injured in line of duty, will be provided with additional P250,000.00 death and disability benefits, and up to P100,000 benefits for reimbursement of medical expenses.

“We demand so much from our uniformed personnel: from preserving internal peace and security, particularly in the intensified anti-drug and anti-crime campaign of the government, to rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts during times of calamity and crisis. It is only fair that we assure our uniformed personnel and their families, through this measure, that the government is ready to support them in case something untoward happens,” Trillanes, former Navy officer further explained.
